Blackman Chiropractic Center welcomed Thomas C. Mattheson, D.C. to the practice at the end of the summer 2010.

Dr. Mattheson was born and raised just 25 minutes north of Boston, MA. He went to high school at Saint John’s Prep in Danvers, MA where he was accepted to the University of Syracuse in NY. He received a B.S. in Biology Health Science and an A.S. in Psychology. His choices were to go on to medical school, or look for alternatives in the health profession.

In 1984 Tom’s father had an accident at work falling several feet off a ladder. He hurt his back so bad that he ended up in the hospital bed ridden for over two weeks. He was told by orthopedic surgeons that surgery was inevitable and that 100% recovery was very unlikely at the time. Once he had healed up enough to return to work three weeks later, friends suggested he seek a second opinion and other alternatives. At the time he was able to function but his pain was still severe. Hoping to avoid surgery, he began seeing a Chiropractor. After several months of exercise to strengthen his spine and chiropractic treatment, the pain had finally subsided. He continued to have annual treatments and avoided surgery pain free for several years to come.

Dr. Mattheson’s goal was to become a medical doctor following Syracuse University. So he took a year off after graduation to really look into what it was he wanted to spend his life doing within the health profession. One day his dad asked him, “Tom, why haven’t you thought of becoming a chiropractor?”

The seed was planted; Dr. Mattheson graduated close to home at the University of Bridgeport, College of Chiropractic in CT in 2007. Following Chiropractic College, he worked at Sun Micro Systems North East Headquarters in Burlington, MA. A well paying computer job helped pay off student loans while he continued to treat family and friends during this employment.

Dr. Mattheson then chose to follow his true passion in life, healing, and making a difference in the lives of others. In 2009, he started practicing in the state of MA as a licensed chiropractor. In 2010 He received his license in NH to practice. 2011 was kicked off by extensive training with Sigma instrumentation to become a Masters Circle Professionals Trainer with the equipment. In March he attended a seminar in Boston to become certified with Metagenics First Line Therapy. Future goals this year include becoming a Certified Clinical Nutritionist.

Now that Dr. Thomas C Mattheson has joined the team at Blackman Chiropractic Center, he is looking forward to meeting all patients and sharing a fresh new perspective within our ever growing alternative health industry. Cheers to your Health!
